Stylish, Safe, Fun and Natural Tips For Your Summer

    1.Safe Sunscreen That Works

Just in time for our summer lifestyle the EWG has updated their sunscreen list that reflects their new findings. Their research has changed the reccomendations and now includes nano zinc and titanium dioxide. For more information about this check out Skin Deep Database.

Mineral sunscreens are the safest and most effective ones to use so I have been trying different brands to find one that works well under makeup along with one for general use.

The problem I have been having is finding one that I am happy with wearing under makeup that does not feel too heavy on the skin and dries as clear as possible.

Having tried several, my favorite so far is Lavera, Anti-Age Sun Screen. Lavera receives good ratings for their sunscreens from the EWG. This is a micronized mineral based sunscreen that with careful application dries almost clear, you do have to work it in to the skin.

It contains many good for the skin ingredients and works as a moisturizer and sunscreen.

For overall use try California Baby Sunscreen No Fragrance Lotion SPF 30. This is not just for kids. It is rated very safe and effective and dries almost clear. Check my page on natural sunscreen for more information and links to both these companies.

    2.A UV Protective Hat

Coolibar has a big selection of fun and stylish hats that provide high levels of UV protection. Whether you need something for an outdoor life or something sophisticated you can look great and protect your skin.

    3.Sun Glasses With UVA-UVB

Looks are of the up most importance but don't neglect UVA and UVB protection. You don't have to spend that much to get both.

A $15 dollar pair from the drug store that provides high percentages of UVA and UVB protection works just as well as a $150. pair. The added bonus is you won't feel awful if you leave them on the counter of some store never to be seen again.

    4.Lip Balm With Sunscreen.

I just wasn't giving that much thought to protecting my lips from sun exposure. I know better now. But try and find a safe, natural and effective one.

I've settled on Badger SPF 15 Lip Balm made from micronized zinc oxide. It goes on a little white but dried clear. It feels nice and lipstick or gloss goes on well over it. Has a very slight taste from the essential oils but it is short lived. It works better on UVA rays than UVB, the burning rays so re-application is needed more often.

    5.Sunless Tanner

Lavera comes through again with a highly rated sunless tanner. Natural, safe ingredients and moisturizing benefits along with the soft glow of a tan. Proper application is a must with any self tanner. Need some tips on application please read how to apply sunless tanners.

    6.A Great Bronzer

Alima Cosmetics has a mineral based bronzer that gives my skin a healthy glow. This matte based bronzer is easy to use. I applied this over Lavera sunscreen and Alima mineral makeup. It comes in three beautiful colors that should work on any skin tone to give a nice sunlit look.

    7.A Safe Natural Hair Remover

Smooth silky legs and underarms, not to mention other areas of the body or face that could use a little less hair need a good hair remover.

I just tried Moom hair remover and being a long time shaver was pleasantly surprised. Moom had very safe all natural ingredients, sugar, chamomile, lemon juice, water and essential oils. Applying this sugar mixture was fairly easy and removing it with strips of cloth didn't hurt. It works much the same way that waxing does. Takes some practice but the results were very smooth and supposed to last for up to 2 months. It's been one week for me and so far nice and smooth.

    8.Safe Bug Repellent

Keep bugs away safely and without DEET. Bite Blocker Insect Repellent is made from natural ingredients that have been found to be very effective at keeping insects away. It worked quite well. I did re-apply after 40 minutes or so but that may depend more on how bad the bugs are. It does have a fragrance which I believe is from the geranium essential oil which some people might not care for. It's available in a spray or towelette. You can find it atGreenfeet

    9.Great Summer Tote

Check out this great tote bag made from recycled vinyl ad banners. One of a kind, colorful and very durable. They are made using fair labor right here in the U.S. Also includes handles made from recycled seat belts and inner tubes. Check them out at Reusable Bags

    10.Flip Flops

How about a pair of cute and comfy vegan flip flops? From metallic finished pleather to fabric styles you can find something to suit your taste and budget from either Vegetarian Shoes and Handbags or What a Pair.

    10 1/2.My Favorite Summertime Drink

This is just a tasty extra. Try it and see if you don't agree. Easy to make and refreshing and you can easily play around with your own combination of ingredients to suit your own taste.

Here are the basics for one drink:

    1 cup watermelon

    1 cup ice

1 tbs fresh lime juice (adjust for your preference)

1/4 cup Guava juice (once again according to taste)

Agave nectar or you can use sugar

Toss everything but sugar into the blender and and blend on high. Add sweetner to taste and drink right away.

You could try any other type melon or something other than guava. Whatever works for you. Too good and healthy too. I know I am addicted.

What's In The Fridge Skin Care:
    Peaches and Cucumbers

Peaches rich in alpha-hydroxy acids good for exfoliating and loaded with water, they make a great addition to facial masks for dry to normal skin

    1/2 peach

    1 tsp sugar

    olive oil just to blend

Mash up the peach add the sugar then olive oil to make a paste. Apply to skin and rub gently in circular motion. Leave on skin for 5 minutes or so. Rinse. Needs to be used right away or the sugar will dissolve and you will have a syrupy mess.

You could just buy a moisturizing peach mask which I'm sure is very nice at Buy Natural Skincare but a little pricey. Making your own sure saves money.

Cucumber Mask good for oily skin. Tones, refreshes and exfoliates.

    1/2 peeled chilled cucumber
    1 egg white
    1 tbs lemon juice
Puree all ingredients in the blender. Apply to face and leave on for 10 - 15 minutes . Rinse.

Aubrey Organics Sea Buckthorn and Cucumber carries this line of products that is good for combination skin .
