Avon Mineral Makeup Review

I bought Avon mineral makeup and used samples of several other mineral makeup brands, but so far I don't like it. It's almost impossible to apply because it falls everywhere - all over the vanity basin and my clothes. Also I can't get the colour right and it looks so heavy and false-looking. Maybe the particles need to be finer.
The key might be in finding a really soft brush so that it moves around the face easier. Maybe I'll save up and buy a really expensive brand so that I can make a proper evaluation. I don't want to give up on this concept just yet as I think the idea is a good one and coverage of marks and spots is excellent.
One final point is the skin must be very well hydrated with lots of moisturizer before using it. Dry skin underneath looks terrible.
EDITOR'S NOTES:
Thanks Sandra for the review of Avon Mineral Makeup. Mineral makeup does take some getting used to. Some makeup falling from the brush is common. It can be reduced by tapping the brush on the lid before applying. I have found that a minimum amount on the brush works best. I will use several light coats to achieve the best coverage.
You don't need a really expensive brand. Many of the mineral makeup's mentioned on this site or within the reviews are affordably priced and contain great ingredients. A really soft brush like you mentioned is also very helpful.
You are right about needing a moisturizer. A good moisturizer for your skin type is important to give the minerals something to cling to and is a must under mineral makeup.
I hope you do not give up on mineral makeup as you noticed you can achieve good coverage. I have found that with just a little practice and the right moisturizer I was very happy with the results.
Avon's mineral makeup has quite an extensive list of ingredients in comparison to some of the natural brands mentioned in other reviews. There are several ingredients like the parabens and Imidazolidinyl Urea that should be avoided and are considered toxic. See nontoxic skin care for more information. Also bismuth oxycholride may be an irritant for some women.
Below are the ingredients from the Avon website for Smooth Minerals:
MICA TITANIUM DIOXIDE SILICA CALCIUM PCA ZINC PCA SACCHAROMYCES/COPPER FERMENT SACCHAROMYCES/MAGNESIUM FERMENT SACCHAROMYCES/ZINC FERMENT SACCHAROMYCES/MALACHITE FERMENT SACCHAROMYCES/TOURMALINE FERMENT KAOLIN LAURYL PCA SODIUM PCA LECITHIN RETINYL PALMITATE SODIUM CHONDROITIN SULFATE TOCOPHEROL SODIUM HYALURONATE ASCORBYL PALMITATE ATELOCOLLAGEN BETA-CAROTENE TREHALOSE POLYQUATERNIUM-51 PHENYL TRIMETHICONE UREA C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE SILICA DIMETHYL SILYLATE METHYLPARABEN IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA PROPYLPARABEN
MAY CONTAIN: IRON OXIDES BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE/CI 77163
Now take a look at the ingredients from a popular natural brand Bisous Minerals mentioned in the reviews:
Weightless Lasting Foundation: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxides, Silica, Allantoin.
Great makeup, simple ingredients.
Another note about Avon. They are not a signer of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and while they say they do not do animal testing, I feel more assured when a company voluntarily complies with one of the cruelty free organizations like Peta or the CSC (The Corporate Standard of Compassion).
