Bisous Minerals Makeup Review

by Jennifer D.
(Northern California)

I stumbled upon Bisous Minerals ( over a year ago and have to say, I believe I've found my holy grail. Their philosophy regarding mineral makeup really resonated with me. However, the thing that really sold me was their custom blending service which they provide at no additional charge.

I initially ordered their 4-Piece Sample Kit which came with a free travel mini kabuki brush. After testing the different colors, I realized that my skintone was between fair and light and my undertone was golden. I ended up purchasing their Mini-Kit which included a full size foundation, full size finishing veil, 2 synthetic brushes (one is a flat-top and the other a powder brush). Bisous Minerals custom blended for me a Fair-Light Golden foundation. No more wasting money buying several shades and having to mix them to get the correct shade.

I love the foundation coverage and how it looks on my face, not shiny but also not matte and their finishing veil is amazing. The synthetic brushes included in the Mini-Kit are the best I have ever used. I ended up throwing away my natural hair brushes.

I experienced no itching or rash, and it kept my oiliness at bay. I can't say enough about Bisous Minerals and have recommended several friends to the brand. They too are extremely happy. Their prices are pretty reasonable, they're not the cheapest but not the most expensive.

A brief background on myself: I am a 28yr old Southeast Asian woman who suffers from moderate to severe adult-acne with excessive oily skin. Mineral makeup was recommended by my dermatologist and has been a godsend for me. I initially started with Bare Escentuals as I had seen their infomercials. Unfortunately, I experienced itching, breakouts, and didn't like the "shiny" appearance.

I then tried other mineral makeup from major to minor brands such as Sheer Coverage, L'Oreal Bare Naturale, Physicians Formula, Everyday Minerals, and Face Value. I was never quite happy with the performance or coverage of the makeup and had difficulty finding a color that would match my skintone, it was either too pink, too orange, or too yellow. I also discovered that a common ingredient in a lot of mineral makeup, bismuth oxychloride, is actually a synthetic mineral and that boron nitride, a high end mineral, also caused me to itch and breakout.

Thanks Jennifer for such a thorough review. Very helpful.

Good pure ingredients found in these cosmetics. They make quite a few products but here are the ingredients from a few:

Weightless Lasting Foundation: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxides, Silica, Allantoin.

Translucent and Tinted Glow Finishing Veils: Mica, Silica, Titanium Dioxide. May contain Iron Oxides.

Bronzer: Mica, Iron Oxides, Zinc Oxide

If you check these products out make sure to look at their ingredient page. They have a nice ingredient comparison for some of the major brands.

Good well organized site with plenty of helpful information to make trying mineral makeup easier.

Response to Wanda

I cleanse and exfoliate my face in the shower. Then I apply my topical acne medication and moisturizer (with sunscreen), giving each lotion a minute to absorb before applying the other. I then use the powder buffer brush to apply the Oil-Control Priming Powder (especially around my t-zone). Next, with the flat-top brush, I use it apply my Bisous Mineral foundation.

If you need more application tips, Bisous Minerals have a page on their website with detailed instructions which I found extremely useful. The page is called 'Application Tips'. I hope this helped.

Use what before applying Bisous Mineral Foundation

I have ordered the trial set. For all of you that are using it...what do you put on your face after cleansing...(steps, in order, please)... moisturizer or primer powder or mineral veil or nothing before the foundation? For us newcomers we could use a little direction

Way "Better than Bare"
by: Anonymous

Bisous Minerals is FAR better than Bare Minerals - especially for 36+ or maturing skin. I'm 38 and used Bare Minerals for 6 years. In the past 6 months my (not-so-dandy) fine lines started being "accentuated" with BM foundation/veil. And I started itching after applying it. I found out that it was the Bismuth Oxychloride and am certain that the Goat Hair foundation/application brushes bothered me as well. I have now completely switched to Bisous foundation & blushes and bot 2 sets of their synthetic/vegan application brushes. In just two days after trying their sampler combo: no redness, itching or fine lines!! Woweeeeeee - I'm so excited!! Pure, simple and effective. Absolutely NO touch-ups throughout the day (like I had to 2-3x with BM). Bisous' application brushes are 100% top-notch, and their finishing veil is the BEST! I just hope they soon expand their line to include eye and brow minerals (with vegan/synthetic application brushes). The best part is: for just $10+shipping you can try/sample 3 shades of foundation with a baby buki brush!! How GREAT is that?? Bye-Bye Bare Minerals!

Bisous Mineral - the best I've tried
by: Kylie S.

I have tried other mineral powder make-up that I found online, but the look and feel just wasn't what I was looking for. A friend introduced me to Bisous Minerals several months ago and I've been using it ever since! I have been happy with how the powder feels on my skin. It gives a flawless look that just looks natural and not caked on. I've gotten so many compliments and have introduced this product to other friends as well. The coverage is great and lasts all day. The finishing veil is great too and the brushes are ultra soft!!

I would highly recommend this for anyone who want natural and flawless makeup. I will never spend money buying expensive department store mineral powder make-up. The secret is out with Bisous Mineral! Great makeup without the department store prices.

Bisous Minerals makeup is wonderful!

I am a recent convert to mineral makeup as it was recommended to me by my dermatologist. I have combination skin (oily T-zone and dry elsewhere) and to top it off, my skin is also quite sensitive and prone to breaking out. I started out with L'Oreal Mineral makeup and found it too heavy, didn't really like how it felt and the shades available just didn't quite match my real skin color. Other makeup just caused me to break out, so I was at the end of my rope.

Then a friend of mine introduced me to Bisous Mineral and I tried their starter kit (foundation, mini-veil powder & kabuki brush) which I thought was quite reasonably priced compared to other brands and was pleasantly surprised at how it made my skin feel and look. I love the fact that it provides me with the necessary coverage but doesn't feel heavy or look cakey.

The mini-veil gives me fantastic oil control and gives my face a soft glow effect. I love that it lasts all day and transitions into the evening brilliantly, which is a god-send for me as my work often requires me to meet with clients and attend networking events in the evenings.

One time, I was late to a gym class and didn't have time to wash off my makeup beforehand, and was thrilled when I found out afterwards that Bisous Mineral makeup not only stayed on perfectly, but it didn't irritate my skin. Amazing!!!

I've been using it now for the last 6 months and can't imagine using anything else. I love how it feels and I now get great compliments from friends and family on how "naturally" beautiful I look.

Bisous has a wonderful philosophy and it really is good value for money. I would definitely recommend anyone thinking about switching to mineral makeup to try Bisous (the name means "kisses" in French - how great is that?)first.

Hi, I'm also a Bisous Minerals convert and am happy to see that there are others out that who agree with me. I also used to use Bare Essentials and although I loved how it held up and wore in to the evening, I didn't like how it looked during the daytime when I first put it on in the morning. Way too shiny for day and for someone like me who has oily t-zone, this wasn't the greatest thing.

I just figured that you always had a little compromise on makeup but I'm happy to say that there is no compromise with my Bisous Minerals foundation. I have the entire face set with foundation & mineral viel with kabuki brush and I absolutely love it! Coverage is great but not too heavy and my face is not fakey shiny when I put it on. The mineral viel is great at controlling my nose shine for a lot longer than any other powder has done.

The results are noticeable as a lot of my friends and work colleagues have commented on how great my skin looks. So I'm now a big fan and have gotten a few of my friends to switch over already. They too agree with me and the best part of all of this is, they are a fraction of the cost of Bare Essentials and other retail brands.

Sometimes, I guess you just strike gold when you find some of these smaller brands who offer better quality and better value for your money! :)

Great Products

It's really nice to see a review for this makeup. Heard about it through a friend and have been using Bisous Minerals for 6 months now, haven't had any problems. Loved the coverage and feel. Highly recommended. Former Bare Mineral user.
