Cure-All Mud Masks!

by Charmayne

As all skin types are different you can alter the ingredients to suit your skin. Scarring, add more vitamin E or if you have it use some aloe vera, good for acne. Try lavender oil or tea tree oil and if you don't have some off the ingredients who care through in something else you think might be good.

Mud (obviously) about a handful.

7 drops Lavender Oil (make sure it isn't distilled with chemicals)

OR

7 drops Tea Tree Oil (see above)

Eucalyptus Oil or Plant (oil works best in this but if you soak in water just use the mixture)

20 drops Almond Oil

4 vitamin E capsules (dry works best but liquid is fine)

EDITOR'S NOTES:

Thanks for the recipe Charmayne!

Mud or clay masks are great for the skin as they help to draw impurities out of the skin. Additionally, oily skin types benefit from the addition of tea tree oil or lavender oil and also the eucalyptus oil which is antiseptic.

My skin is dry so I would probably make this mask with less lavender and no tea tree oil or eucalyptus. I would also use Vitamin E oil capsules. Since clay masks can be a more drying type of mask I would not use this mask too often. Maybe twice a month and followed by a good moisturizer.

This is a great example of playing around with the ingredients to create a mask that works for your skin.

Chocolate Mask

by Heraily
(New Jersey)

What I did is a chocolate mask that is just for fun. Add 1/4 tsp of cocoa 1/3 tsp honey 1/4 yogurt and a little bit of water.mix it until looks like chocolate pudding :)

EDITOR'S NOTES:

Thanks Heraily. You were on to something good when you tried these ingredients together in a mask.

Cocoa contains antioxidants which is said to help fight skin aging.

Honey is healing and soothing.

Yogurt contains lactic acids for exfoliation.

She didn't say how much yogurt but I assume it is also 1/4 tsp. She also submitted this mask as a good one for acne.

I tried this mask and the proportions are great. Just enough for one time on face and neck. The mask dries on the skin which helps to draw off impurities. I can see where it might be beneficial for acne. I liked this mask but found it a little drying for my dry skin.

Great mask though and sure smells good!

Cinnamon Honey Mask

by Sharon
(Tampa)

1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp honey

1. Mix the cinnamon and the honey together and refridgerate over night.

2. Place over your face for 15-20 mins

I have chronic cystic acne and this mask has help in aiding my acne :) It's not cured but has definitely influenced a minimizing effect on the amount of acne on my face :) Cinnamon has anti-inflamitory properties, and the honey has anti-bacterial properties.

Honey

by Joselin Gomez
(Salinas, Ca)

All you need is honey. Use it once a day for 30 minutes and get results fast. Also if you want better results put it on when you're about to go to sleep and when you wake up just wash it off. Honey is used for many things and its mostly used for the face. Hopes this helps(:

EDITOR'S NOTES:

Thanks Joselin. Honey does make a great moisturizing mask. I'm thinking though, I would find it a bit messy overnight.
