Sheer Cover and Some Unknown "Private Label" Brands

I too fell for the Sheer Cover pitch and signed up. I quickly found out that the "foundation" part of the kit was definitely not for me. I am now 53 and got the kit when I was 51. I have pretty good skin, medium-fair, not lined and not dry (I credit that to my own line of Shea Butter cream) but the foundation made my skin look lined and horrible in daylight.

The problem is the use of Mica - great for flawless younger skin which likes a bit of glitter but bad for older skin.

I have to say I did like the cream concealer quite a bit. Enough so, that even though I have long since canceled the program (they sent WAY too much merchandise way too often - even when I changed delivery to every 90 days)that I sometimes buy it from an eBay seller.

The Mineral Veil wasn't bad either because it was sheer and matte. I got to where I would just use concealer and Mineral Veil but the coverage was minimal.

Right now I am using (and plan to carry in my shop) some private label brands and so far I am really impressed. The one I have chosen to go with is a "pure" line with just the minerals and beneficial zinc but no bismuth or talc. They have a good assortment of matte finishes for base, blush and eye colors plus a bunch of "fun" shades too and the foundation even looks good out in bright daylight.

Now THAT is the acid test.

I am looking at a second natural line that has some cream products that also have no artificial ingredients as I would like to find a substitute for the Sheer Cover concealer.

Despite being "mineral makeup" not all the Sheer Cover products are "pure minerals".

PS - Try using the mineral colors on your lips. I tried it tonight with my natural shea butter lip balm and a nice red-brown mineral pigment. It worked like a charm and looked so natural. Just apply clear balm or gloss to lips, pick up a tiny bit of mineral powder on your finger and blend it in.

Too fun.

EDITOR'S COMMENTS:

Thank you Angela for the great review and tips.

The smaller companies who create their own mineral makeup do seem to offer the most natural and purest ingredients with the best overall results.

Having used these two private label brands now for about 5 months I have to say I am very impressed.

The "concealer" foundation type is the best I have ever tried and can even cover a bad blemish completely with just a dot of product.

I had to go with two companies to get the wide range of eye colors I wanted to have, and so far so good.

Mineral eye shadow is the most fun stuff ever, because you can get the most subtle sheer effect - or use it wet and get intensity. I love being able to use a bright, intense color and get the most subtle results (try that with your cakey Maybelline).
